New signing for our first Canarias Basketball Academy team. English guard Thomas Ward (Brighton, 1988) has been confirmed this morning by our president, Rob Orellana.
“Tom comes back home after seven years, so he is a player totally identified with the philosophy of the Academy; moreover, he comes back with his Psicology degree, something that it is highly considered at CBA”, Orellana declares.
Ward (1.92 m.) was a member of CBA in the 2007-2008 season, from where he went to college, at first with St. Francis (08-09) and secondly with St. Michaels (09-12). Furthermore, he played for Worthing Thunder in the English EBL1.
“I feel good before the beginning of the season”, Ward affirmed and at the same time he stated that “there is a great team and I am looking forward to starting the competition. We will do it well if we work together; we have too much tallent on the court”.
About Canarias Basketball Academy, he valued “the intensity, hard work and mental toughness. I think that in that aspect the Academy has not changed anything. There are more players and it has significantly grown but without losing its basic principles. In short, we always practice as much as possible with the biggest effort”.
Finally, his coach Pepe Carrión has commented that Ward “is a player with CBA philosophy. He was trained here and after his NCAA career he comes back to add the team not only shots, but also work ethic and commitment to the team”.
