“It was hard to have to say goodbye to family and friends, I will never forget the farewell at the airport and the tears of my loved ones … but coming to CBA was the best option, the ease they give the player so that he can improve is what really makes it unique to the Canary Basketball Academy”
It was Gael Bonilla’s own words last October. He had just arrived in Tafira Alta, crossing the Atlantic and only 13 years old, but with a goal in mind: to grow as a player. Gael arrived at the Canarias Basketball Academy thanks to Giovanny Rivera, a Mexican coach who maintains a good relationship with Rob, director of the CBA, and offered him the chance to try the boy from Mexico. He then pointed out that he was “a player with a rare talent in players of an early age who had that much-needed confidence that allows him to be decisive even competing with people older than him”.
And after the first few months in Spain the rewards were not long in coming. Gael, who is a key player in the U14 and U16 teams of the Academy, has received an invitation from Real Madrid to play a friendly tournament during Easter weekend.
The club of the capital of Spain, aware of Gael’s quality, got in touch with the Canarias Basketball Academy to invite the Mexican player to the tournament of the U14 category to be played during Easter Week in the Catalan town of Castelldefels. A request that from the Academy has accepted without any doubt, since for the guard of 1.94 meters and just turned 14 this will be a great experience and will serve him to keep growing.
Rob Orellana, President of the CBA, will accompany Gael on this trip. This call only means a fantastic reward for the excellent work that Gael is doing since joining the Academy. Rob Orellana, director of the CBA, has confessed his satisfaction “for the excellent attitude on and off the court of Gael”, wanting to emphasize the player “his perseverance and ambition to be better every day.”
From the Canarias Basketball Academy we are proud of the interest received in our player from the most awarded club in Europe.
