The Spanish player, Javier Menéndez, who is in his second year at the Canarias Basketball Academy, will play at the NCAA II Division with New Mexico Highlands University next season, while he studies Physiotherapy with a full scholarship.


Beginning his life as a basketball player at C. B. Navia, he played with this club in the U’18 Spanish Championships (2013-2014), event where the CBA discovered him, thanks to this, the following season he started playing at this International High performance Center. He has also participated with his regional team at the Spanish Regions Championship, in the U’12, U’14 and U’16 categories.


In this matter, Javier Menéndez, enthusiastic, received the news of his American scholarship: “It is a dream comes true; this was my goal when I arrived at the CBA two years ago, where I knew that I would get reward if I struggled to my top”. “Also, this season I have been at the Post Graduate program, so I can focus on my game and improve my English”, said the power-forward while he added: “I am very grateful to CBA for its support, because it has been the key for achieve this”.


Likewise, the basketball player from Navia said that his family and friends have congratulated him, as well as they have advised him to “take advantage of the experience, because it is a one on a lifetime chance”.


On the other hand, Menéndez follows the steps of another CBA player, Jonathon Mines, who has the honor of being the top scorer for New Mexico Highlands University last season.
