It had to be the first time some day and it happened today Wednesday 6th of May in Torrejón de Ardoz in the U18 Spanish Championships. CBA beat L’Hospitalet (63-69) and moved to the ¼ for the first time ever to play tomorrow Thrusday vs Baloncesto Sevilla (at 10:30 am in Pabellón Jorge Garbajosa).
It was a really hard game in the 1/8 vs a strong, skilled and tactical rival that pushed CBA to the limit all the time. That is why it began winning by 6 (10-4, minute 5) and led the score until minute 24 (44-37). Then a 0-11 run by CBA changed the dynamic due to the three-pointers and the fast transitions that punished L’Hospitalet and CBA got the best advantage with three minutes left (56-65). It was a question of keeping the distance to qualify for a round that had never played before.
To show that this was a team victory, everybody should see that seven players scored between 7 and 13 points (Jordan Blount was the top maker) and outrebounded L’Hospitalet (16 more, 57 in total), aspect in which Souleymane Diakite (with 15 rebounds) and Menno Dijkstra (14) were the best ones and finished with the same ranking points (17). These are the rest of the stats.
At Pabellón Jorge Garbajosa CBA is going to try to extend its dream vs Baloncesto Sevilla (which defeated Novaschool this morning) at 10:30 am, but Canarias Basketball Academy is already among the best eight in Spain, something that shows the hard work done during the season.
