U18 CBA got an important win tonight vs Umana Reyer Venice (71-68) in its second game in the Next Generation Tournament in Belgrade that qualifies to the F4 of the Euroleague to be played in Madrid in May.
Like in the previous match-up vs Partizan, Canarias Basketball Academy began on fire thanks to Jordan Blount’s performance who ended the first quarter with 18 points and 31 ranking points! (22-11).
Umana Reyer Venice could not react in the early second period vs Sergio Salesa’s players who increased the distance until 34-18, to finish the third quarter 10 points up, 37-27.
After halftime, the Italian team worked harder and the fight got more equal little by little.
The first time they led the game was with 30 seconds to go, but Yixiong Wang scored after an offensive rebound (69-68). Following, Venice gained the chance to have another comeback but missed its last lay-up and committed an unsportsmanslike foul that served CBA to get an essential win.
The best of the encounter were powerful Jordan Blount and Menno Dijkstra. The first one had superb stats: 32 points (15/16 FT), 14 rebounds, 9 fouls drawn, 4 steals and 2 assists to end with 46 ranking points in 30’. Dutch center, for his part, also had many ranking points (29) and scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 33’.
This victory helped CBA have options to qualify for the semifinals just in case it won Zemun tomorrow (at one pm, local time). If so, the game would be at 8:30, local time vs the favourite Red Star.
