The lack of intensity and the problems on rebounding condemned Canarias Basketball Academy’s first team this evening as it lost to Opentach Bàsquet Pla (68-73) in the 26th game in Adecco Plata.
Before the beginning there was a minute of silence as wells as in the other games in Adecco Plata in memory of the recent aeroplane crash victims at the French Alps.
Right after, Pepe Carrión decided that the starting five were going to be Berni Hernández, Kaleb Wright, Roberto Guerra, Jacobo Díaz and Kostya Kulikov, and César Sánchez initially trusted in Ridge Mckeither, Juanito Riera, Mat Johnson, Berto García and Albert Ausina.
The game was tight in the first moments (7-6, min. 5) and CBA Gran Canaria got a lead 1 minute and 20 seconds before the end of the first quarter thanks to Diego Quintana’s three pointer (20-16). Nevertheless, Juanito Riera replied the same way so his team recovered and ended the initial period ahead: 22-23.
In the second quarter, there were equal forces on the court but Bàsquet Pla was a little bit better on the scoreboard in spite of Jessey Voorn who had 10 points (2 three-pointers) and 3 rebounds and at halftime CBA Gran Canaria was losing to Pla 39-42.
After the break step by step the Balearic team widened its advantage and Pepe Carrión had to stop the game with a time out 1 minute before the end of the third quarter (49-56) though it did not have a special effect in the end (52-58 after a three-point buzzer beater by Kaleb Wright).
In the last quarter Opentach Bàsquet Pla kept the small difference that had accumulated until then and did not allow any local reaction specially after Riera’s 3+1 with 1 minute and 10 seconds left to go. Like this, the game finished at Centro Insular de Deportes with a visiting win (68 – 73).
The best in the evening was the opponent Albert Ausina who had 31 ranking points (12 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 fouls drawn) followed by local Kaleb Wright who added 24 (24 points and 8 rebounds).
